aims and methodology

The effectiveness and practical results of the predominantly global anthropocentric legal regulation methods - despite the numerous international (multilateral) conventions, declarations, commitments, and institutional protection activities implemented by the states - are now highly questionable. In addition to the regulatory philosophy focusing on the interests of the future generation, there is also one focusing on certain elements of nature.

A fourth version of the ways of looking at the relationship between man and nature has also developed, although it is not consciously appearing in the legal codification for the time being. The protection of creation, which is also recognized and urged to be implemented in Christian social teachings, but other religions also set similar value priorities and think in a similar way about nature, which they identify with the created world. For the Catholic university, it is a question of identity to represent and, if possible, to make known the view of the protection of creation. Religious studies practitioners are making significant progress in this regard, while there is much to be done in the field of social sciences and jurisprudence.

The aim of the volume, as its title implies, is to raise current sustainability questions, - if possible, to answer them through the analysis of legal regulatory instruments, - which are current, concern the decision-makers and legislators of today's societies, and finding the answers is urgent. The studies intend to demonstrate all of this by pointing out the investigated research area with the social teaching of the church and especially the Laudato Sí! encyclical to its common points.

The aim of the volume is also to bring to the attention of university students interested in the protection of the created world readings that are forward-looking, solution-oriented and future-generation-friendly in terms of their approach, showing the common intersections of law as a social science and the protection of creation.

Report on the 1st Creation Protection Conference of the Diocese of Vác.

The very first diocesan-level conference on creation protection was held in Vác on 9 February 2024.

Our colleague, Ágnes Tahyné Kovács, who was invited as a staff member of the Research Institute for the Integrity of Creation, spoke about the development of the creation protection approach in the social teaching of the Catholic Church.

Bishop Emeritus Miklós Beer spoke about his personal experiences. "Wake up, man!"- he called on the audience to live in harmony with the created world.

In the second part of the conference, reports were given about the formation of small communities, the spirituality of creation protection and its role in religious education in the Diocese of Vác. We would like to thank Zoltán Ferencz, the creation protection officer in Vác, for organizing the conference.
